In any case, once you're in the PC, there are some adjustments to make.
How are you getting audio from the preamp into the computer? What's the sound card in the computer? Note that I don't use anything fancy, and my audio sounds great to me. That comes later (and, sadly, you can't see it). Don't try to hit the top of the meter at this stage. Any place you can meter the audio at these stages should be bouncing around -15 to -10 on a "dBFS" meter (a meter that goes up to Zero). that is, out of the preamp? Does it have a headphone tap to listen to? You want to make sure that none of those are causing your issues, and you're not coming close to the limit in any of those devices. What does the audio sound like at the last step before the input to the PC. And 'into Wirecast' really means 'into a computer'. You are passing through several steps after Ableton: back to Mixer, out to Preamp, into Wirecast. What are you doing in Ableton? Mixing? Processing (compression)? Also not something I'm well versed in, though I've used one program a little (very confusing).

I also see some threads describing ways to get Ableton's output into Wirecast on Windows using virtual audio paths. I wasn't familiar with Ableton, but from their web site it looks like a mixing/processing program that has plenty of capability to screw up sound (or make it great). I'll have to take your word for it that it's better 'from Ableton'.
